Things To Do

The Great Outdoors

Whether it’s a gentle walk or an energetic cycle ride, Cropton Forest Lodge cottages are surrounded by great way marked walks and off road cycle routes through forest and glorious countryside.

It is the perfect retreat and an ideal base to explore the stunning scenery of North Yorkshire and it’s coastline.

The nearby Dalby Forest has many attractions including the Go Ape tree top walk for those with a head for heights and who love adventure.

Their recently opened mountain bike trails (of around 50 km) are highly acclaimed, have great reviews and are graded for all levels of riders, from beginners to professionals. A great day out!

Badger Watching

Join us at a purpose built hide to watch the badgers in their natural habitat, as they venture form their setts to play and feed. There are also roe and red deer, foxes, birds and a whole host of forest wildlife that may wander into view. The viewings are between May and August, places are limited, so book early!

The viewing is for around 2 1/2 hours, from 7pm (approx) to 9.30pm (approx) - depending on light levels. Price is £10 per person, group discounts apply - please enquire.

Sightseeing

We are a perfect base for those who want to explore the dramatic landscapes and picture postcard village of the North York Moors.

A 45 minute scenic drive will take you over the heather laden moors to the traditional fishing town of Whitby, into the historic City of York, or to the Baroque masterpiece, Castle Howard.

The North York Moors Steam Railway stops at Levisham station, a short walk or drive through the forest, and just one stop away is Goathland, probably better known as the Heartbeat TV series village of Aidensfield.
